Since 1934, the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges organization has been honored outstanding campus leaders annually for their scholastic, co-curricular, leadership and community achievements. There is no initiation cost or membership fee. The Who’s Who founder, H. Pettus Randall, Jr., designed this no-cost organization to ensure achievement was recognized regardless of a student’s financial ability to participate. Continuing this legacy, H. Pettus Randall III established scholarships in 2002 as an additional way to honor student excellence. These scholarships are randomly awarded each spring to a small selected number of the new nationwide inductees.
KSU’s criteria for consideration in Who’s Who is a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or minimum graduate GPA of 3.5, and demonstrated achievement in co-curricular involvement, leadership, and community service. Only juniors, seniors and graduate students are eligible.
Each fall the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Life office contacts all students who met the minimum academic criteria via their KSU email to invite them to apply for consideration by the selection committee. Those students then submit an online application and a selection committee comprised of diverse representative from across the university independently review all applicants and provide their own rankings. The individual rankings are then combined to create composite scores, weighing various factors such as GPA and engagement in comprising the final score. The top candidates are then calculated by the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Life office and the selection committee finalizes the induction list. The Who’s Who organization determines annually the total number of inductees the institution can select based on a proportion of the total enrollment. The competition has continued to grow over many years, and the selection committee invests significant effort to ensure the most equitable process and evaluation of candidates possible.
Those who are ultimately inducted represent a highly selective group of KSU’s best students, and it is a tremendous honor to be among those selected. To view the list of inductees from previous years please click below:
